I’m a third year PhD student working with the Spatial Science Group at the University of Adelaide. Prior to my PhD, I completed a Bachelor of Environmental Science and a Bachelor of Sustainable Environments at the University of South Australia.
My current research relates to using satellite imagery for mapping ground cover in arid regions of Australia and I am exploring the data and methods used to calibrate and validate these maps. Farmers, natural resource managers and scientists are just a few examples of those who require high-quality ground cover data for decision making. My work hopes to improve how we collect validation data, and in turn, the quality of newly developed ground cover maps ensuring that users can have confidence in the data they are basing their research and decisions on.
Follow me on twitter if you’d like to see updates on my work.
Past projects I’ve worked on include land cover mapping, ecosystem services mapping and valuation, scenario planning of coastal ecosystems and modelling water catchment characteristics.
In my spare time when I’m not thinking about my impending thesis submission date, I volunteer with the Australia Red Cross as a GIS and Mapping Officer and spend a lot of time at the gym making up for the hours spent behind a desk!
